Budapest, 17 May 2024 - EU citizens who would like to vote for Hungarian lists in the European Parliament elections on 9 June 2024 have one week until 4 p.m. on 24 May 2024 to submit their their application to be registered in the elecetoral roll.
Citizens of other EU Member States may apply to register if they have a Hungarian address.
In European Parliament elections, voters can only cast their vote in one country. The National Election Office will therefore notify the electoral authority of the EU voter's nationality after successful registration, who will remove the person from the electoral roll there. This ensures that each voter can only vote in one place in the European Union.
It is important to highlight that after registration, EU voters remain on the Hungarian electoral roll - i.e. they cannot vote in the European Parliament elections in the Member State of their nationality - until they request to be removed from the electoral roll, lose their Hungarian address or lose their right to vote.
For the European Parliament elections on 9 June, EU citizens have until 4 p.m. on 30 May 2024 to request to be removed from the Hungarian electoral roll.
The application for registration/cancellation can be submitted online after electronic identification, in person or by proxy to any local election office.
