NEC decided on the recount of valid votes in the election of the Mayor of Budapest

The National Election Commission (NEC) has decided on the method of examining and recounting the valid votes cast in the election of the Mayor of Budapest, following the order of the Curia. The NEC uses the assistance of the local election offices of the metropolitan districts for the counting.

Budapest, 08 July 2024 - The National Election Commission will use the assistance of the local election offices of the metropolitan districts for the examining and counting of the votes, based on the instructions attached to the decision. The NEC also requests the local election offices of the metropolitan districts to carry out the recount at the district level in the presence of one or more members of the NEC, in the same room at the seat of the local election office of the metropolitan district.

The recount of valid votes for the election of the Mayor of Budapest will take place between 9-11 July 2024, according to the schedule annexed to the minutes. The recount is open to the press, but requires prior registration.

In addition to international observers, the recount process can also be monitored by observers mandated by the candidates running for the mayoral election.

The National Election Commission is expected to decide on the results of the election of the Mayor of the capital on Friday.

The decision of the NEC is based on the decision of the Curia Kvk.VI.39.204/2024/2.
