Budapest, 23 May 2024 - Voters who wish to vote in the European Parliament, local government and minority elections of 9 June by absentee voting may submit their applications for entry in the electoral roll until 4 p.m. on Friday 31 May 2024. It is also possible to apply for registration in the minority electoral roll and to submit an application to be entered in the electoral roll at a foreign representation for the European Parliament elections. Voters can also apply for a Braille ballot template until 16:00 on 31 May.
It is also possible to vote by absentee voting in European Parliament elections and local elections, but it is important to note that the rules for absentee voting differ for each type of election. While for the European Parliament elections, voters can transfer to any municipality in Hungary and can also vote at a foreign representation, for the local and national minority elections, voters can only transfer to the place of residence they have registered by 11 February The deadline for withdrawal of the absentee voting request is 10 a.m. on Friday 7 June 2024.
For the European Parliament elections, citizens also have until 16:00 on 31 May to apply to be entered on the electoral roll of foreign representations. Once registered, voters can cast their vote at the designated representation, but only for the European Parliament elections. The deadline for removal from the electoral roll is 5 June 2024 (Wednesday) at 16:00.
Voters who declare themselves to belong to one of the 13 minorities in Hungary may vote in the elections of municipal, regional and national representatives of national minority self-government, provided that they apply for registration in the minority electoral roll by 4 p.m. on 31 May 2024. Anyone who is not on the minority electoral roll is not entitled to vote in the election of national minority representatives. Voters may also request to be removed from the minority electoral roll until 16:00 on Friday 31 May 2024.
Voters can request a Braille ballot template for the unhindered exercise of their right to vote by submitting their request also by 16:00 on 31 May. The Braille ballot template can also be used at the polling station and when using a mobile ballot box.
Election applications can be submitted online after electronic identification, in person or by proxy to any local election office.
